On this Thanksgiving weekend, you know what I’m thankful for?  I’m thankful to all of you, my subscribers, who’ve made reading and/or listening to the more than 200 FriendWithoutBenefits columns, their regular Sunday morning habit.

Over the past four plus years, you’ve allowed me foist upon you my perspectives, insights and opinions on stories making news and the people behind them.

You may not always agree with me and frankly, I hope you don’t. There are so many opinion curators out there operating in their echo chambers and it’s now crucial, it’s now more important than ever, to actively and aggressively expose ourselves to differing opinions and positions.  It’s okay to disagree, respectfully, of course.

I always welcome and encourage your comments and feedback.  We’ve lost so much of our public civility to the cloistered algorithms of our social media news feeds and to the dearth of dignified discourse amongst our elected officeholders.  That’s not good.  Not even close.  We must not abandon our vital participation in the constructive, essential and very American exercise of trying to figure things out.

Thank you as well for allowing me to get some stuff off my chest.  It has helped me sleep a lot better.

What will continue to motivate me to speak truth to power in my essays, blogs, whatever you want to call them, are the people, the politicians, the CEO’s, the gatekeepers, all those who think they’re smarter than the rest of us; all those who think they can bamboozle us with their rhetoric and who can hide from us with their connivances.  Those are the culprits who need to be called out and called to account.  Those are the people who need to be held   accountable for their words and for their deeds.

That’s what I’m going to try to keep on doing and with your continued support, I will keep calling it as I see it.

Thank you all and I hope you had an enjoyable holiday weekend.

Next week we’ll get back to the task at hand.
